Rolex Steel and Gold Sky Dweller

What is the Rolex Sky-Dweller made for?

Luxury Rolex Sky-Dweller Watch

The Sky-Dweller is Rolex's most complex watch, with an impressive complication that provides an annual calendar and dual time zone technology. The dual time zone and calendar feature make it perfect for travel, and it was originally made for frequent travellers, not pilots like the Rolex GMT. The watch was first released in 2012 and was the first new model released by Rolex in 20 years.

Annual Calendar feature on the Sky-Dweller

As you look at the dial, you see the hour and minute hands indicating local time, but you will also notice a 24-hour rotating disc on the dial. This represents your second-time zone, with the small red triangle indicating the hour in your chosen zone. Around the outside of the dial, you will see a red marker that always sits at one of the 12-hour positions. The position of the red marker indicates the month of the year.

This complication has to be one of the easiest to read at a glance. Once set, the annual calendar only needs to be adjusted once a year at the beginning of March.

Fluted Bezel

All Rolex Sky-Dwellers come equipped with a fluted bezel, known for not showing wear and dazzling in daylight. This bezel is functional, like a GMT bezel, it is a ring command bezel and allows the user to set the watch's different functions. This bezel is always crafted with gold, whether white, yellow or everose.

Sky-Dweller material options

The Sky-Dweller is a luxury watch for travellers, and it comes in a range of materials to suit any look, Oyster steel and white gold, Oyster steel and yellow gold, and yellow gold and Everose gold.

Bracelet Options for the Sky-Dweller

To complete the look, the yellow gold and Everose gold models can come with the standard Oyster 3 link bracelet or an Oyster flex bracelet, which can reduce the price of the overall watch. Oyster steel and white gold and Oyster steel and yellow gold models can come on a 5-link jubilee bracelet; this makes for a dressier finish and is perfect for suit and tie events. Not only can the steel and gold models come with a jubilee, but you can also find them with a 3-link Oyster bracelet, a sportier look.

Dial Options

The dial is the face of the watch. It's what completes the look and what you look at the most. So, it is good to know that the Sky-Dweller has three choices of dials depending on the material.

The Rolex Sky-Dweller history

The original models released in 2012 consisted of Everose gold with a brown leather strap, yellow gold with an oyster bracelet and white gold with an oyster bracelet. These original models can only be found with Arabic or roman numerals. The Sky-Dweller has an impressive case size of 42mm. In 2017 Rolex decided to make the Sky-Dweller more available to consumers by introducing two-tone models. This dropped the price and introduced a new look for the Sky-Dweller to collectors. The Sky-Dweller was only recently graced with a jubilee bracelet in 2021.
