Rolex Yacht-Master 42 Oyster Flex

The Rolex Yacht-Master and its stunning features

The Rolex Yacht-Master was introduced in 1992 and has been around for over three decades. It is one of Rolexes' newest models after the Yacht-Master II and the Sky-dweller. Rolex created the Yacht-Master to symbolise Rolexes' extensive history with sailing dating to the 1950s. While this watch is functional and can be used as a tool for Yachting, the Rolex Yacht-Master is considered a dressy watch made to make a statement. In fact, the first ever model released was made of solid 18ct yellow gold.

A brief overview of the Yacht-Masters features

The Yacht-Master has a triple lock, triple waterproof system keeping your watch safe from water damage. It also has a scratch-resistant sapphire cyclops lens patented by Rolex and allows you to see the date feature at three o'clock. Current models of this watch boast +/-2 seconds of precision per day. Rolex certifies that their Yacht-Master is waterproof up to 100 metres. The Yacht-Master can be seen in various materials, sizes and dials. You can find the Rolex Yacht-master with factory set gemstones and an assortment of dials and bezels.

Case size

The Rolex Yacht-Master first released with a 40mm case size for men and a 29mm case size for ladies. Since then, we have seen the Yacht-Master in many sizes, such as a 35mm model in 1994, the 37mm in 2017 and the most recent edition, the 42mm in 2019. Despite all these case sizes being released, the only models still in production today are the 37mm to 40mm and the 42mm. The Yacht-Master case has been described as smoother and rounder compared to other models by many watch enthusiasts.

Bezel

The Yacht-Master comes with a Rolesium bezel, an alloy based of platinum and stainless steel, Exclusive to the Yacht-Master bezel. This prevents the bezel from getting scratched or dented easily. To differentiate the Yacht-Master from other models, such as the GMT and submariner, Rolex raised the numerals and graduations. This is a functional 60-minute bezel that is bi-directional. The primary function of this bezel is to keep track of time and synchronise race start times for Yachting. You can also find ceramic bezel inserts for the Rolex Yacht-Master.

Configuration

The Rolex Yacht-Master was the first watch to ever boast an Oyster flex bracelet in 2015, and it is now common to find models with an oyster flex bracelet. When it comes to the Yacht-Master models, dials, materials and bracelets, it can be pretty confusing. We have composed a table for easy viewing.
